these benefits is to volunteer some of
your time and talent to assist a
chairman of a committee or to volunteer
to chair a committee.

[ ] AUDIT: Audit
Treasurer’s records on a quarterly
basis.
[ ] BAY AREA LEGAL
SECRETARIES FORUM: Serve as
one of three representatives on the
Forum, receive free
education in exchange for your
assistance in presenting educational
workshops throughout the year.

] BENEFITS: Keep members
informed of various benefits provided
through LSI (i.e., insurance plans,
credit unions, membership in Costco,
Hertz discounts, etc.)
[ ] BUDGET:
Compare last year’s actual income and
expense and project the need for the
next fiscal year.
[ ] BULLETIN:
Prepare newsletter items monthly for
publication in on-line newsletter, or
assist the Editor by becoming a
reporter, solicit advertisers, etc.
[ ]SCHOLARSHIP:
Promote our profession as a career
opportunity, assist in sending notices
to high schools and colleges regarding
the scholarship programs of both SMCLSA
and LSI, volunteer to speak at career
day at the local schools, etc.
[ ] CALIFORNIA
CERTIFIED LEGAL SECRETARY (CCLS):
Coordinate study group and assist
members in preparation for the LSI
administered exam.
[ ] POT O’GOLD:
Ongoing fund raiser, prizes (all
donated) at monthly dinner meeting,
solicit prizes from membership,
vendors, etc., and conduct drawing.
[ ] EMPLOYMENT:
Act as a clearing house for both
members seeking employment and
attorneys seeking qualified help.
Publish a listing each month in the
newsletter. (This is not a placement
service, merely a repository of
information.)
[ ] HISTORIAN:
Take photos of meetings and events,
assemble a history book or scrap book
to be presented to the SMCLSA outgoing
president at the end of the fiscal
year. The Historian may also
participate in the LSI history book
contest at the LSI Annual Conference.
[ ]MARKETING:
Disseminate information received from
LSI, seek avenues for spreading the
word about our organization.
[ ] RESERVATIONS:
Make monthly dinner meeting
arrangements, chooses menu, takes
reservations, collects money, and
provides names and addresses of guests
to the newsletter editor for
complimentary mailings, and to
membership chairman for follow-up.
Check members in/collect money due at
meetings.
[ ] HOSPITALITY:
Assist the Membership Chairman in
conducting annual membership drive,
such as assisting with menu, prizes,
entertainment, etc. Also may volunteer
to greet members and guests at monthly
dinner meetings.
[ ] INTERCLUB:
Attend functions sponsored by our
sister associations, organize a program
in which our sister associations may
participate, such as Day at the Races,
a night at the theatre, etc.
[ ] LEGAL
EDUCATION: Plan/coordinate
educational type programs which may be
a fund raising event for the
association.
[ ] LEGAL
PROCEDURES: Inform members via a
column in the newsletter of changes in
the law or fees, etc., which impact our
profession, or assist the Legal
Procedures chairman in collecting such
information by reading the daily legal
newspapers and forwarding information
of interest.
[ ] PROFESSIONAL
LIAISON/DAY IN COURT: Volunteer to
assist the local bar association in any
activity where our members may be of
service such as registration assistance
at bar functions. Plan/coordinate
program for members and the public to
tour local court, or other related
offices or institutions.
[ ] PROGRAM:
Plan/coordinate speakers and or
entertainment for monthly dinner
meetings, or assist the Program
Chairman.
[ ] PUBLICITY:
Issue news release to the media
regarding upcoming programs, providing
contact information.
[ ] WAYS & MEANS:
Plan/organize/promote fund raising
activities.
